Stage 1 Written Exam Conducted by UPSC. You must clear the sectional and overall cut-off to qualify.
Stage 2 SSB Interview A 5-day testing process by the Service Selection Board that evaluates your personality, intelligence, and teamwork through:

• Day 1: Screening (OIR test & PPDT story writing)

• Days 2–5: Psychological tests, GTO tasks, and personal interview.
Stage 3 Medical Exam A thorough 4 to 6-day checkup at military hospitals to ensure you meet structural, height, weight, and vision standards.

Stage 1 Written Exam You must clear the overall computer-based test cut-off (usually ranges between 140–160 marks out of 300) to get called for interviews.
Stage 2 AFSB Interview A 5-day personality assessment at an Air Force Selection Board:

• Day 1 (Screening): Intelligence rating test & story writing (PPDT). Failing means going home the same day.

• Days 2–5: Psychological tests, Group Testing Officer (GTO) outdoor tasks, and a personal interview.
Special Test CPSS Test Computerized Pilot Selection System: A mandatory, once-in-a-lifetime cockpit simulation and reflex test only for Flying Branch aspirants.
Stage 3 Medical Test Conducted at specialized Air Force medical hospitals to check strict vision, hearing, height/weight ratios, and spinal physical structures.
Final Merit List The IAF creates an all-India merit list based purely on Written Exam Marks + AFSB Interview Marks.

Stage 3 Medical Standard Test Candidates who clear the physical events undergo a complete medical checkup at military/composite hospitals to check vision, joints, and overall fitness.
Stage 4 Interview / Personality Test A face-to-face interview worth 150 marks conducted by the UPSC board in New Delhi to evaluate your leadership and mental alertness. (NCC ‘B’ or ‘C’ certificates get special weightage here).
Final Merit List The final selection list is prepared out of 600 Total Marks based purely on:

Written Exam (450 Marks) + Interview (150 Marks).

• Adaptability Test: OMR-based suitability test.

• Physical Fitness Test (PFT): 1.6 km run in 7 minutes + 20 Squat-ups + 10 Push-ups (done without a break).

• Initial Medicals: Preliminary health screening.
Stage 3 Final Selection Board • For Naviks: Thorough scrutiny of original documents.

• For Assistant Commandant Officers: Face-to-face evaluation via the Preliminary Selection Board (PSB) and Final Selection Board (FSB) involving psychological checks and group interviews.
