RRB JE 2026: Notification Status, Exam Dates, Syllabus & Coaching

For the past few years, RRB JE 2026 searches have been based on the ongoing Railway Recruitment Board Junior Engineer cycle for CEN 05/2025. There was no separate fresh JE notification with a CEN number 2026 on official notice pages visited on 12th September 2026. CBT-1 was held in February 2026, and CBT-2 was held on 2 July 2026.

What is the RRB JE 2026 notification status?

The current recruitment cycle of JE (the recruitment cycle that is active on the official RRB pages) is CEN 05/2025 as of 12 September 2026. The detailed notice initially announced 2,569 vacancies for JE, DMS, and CMA, and RRB issued Corrigendum No. 1 to boost the notified vacancies. Because the official searchable extract does not expose one consolidated revised total, candidates should use the revised Annexure-B on the official RRB site for the final RRB-wise count.

The application window is closed. Candidates who have already applied are requested to check the RRB to which they applied for their CBT-2 result, document verification, and medical examination details.

Pay Level

Level 6 under the 7th CPC; initial pay shown in the detailed CEN is ₹35,400.

Age in CEN 05/2025

18–33 years as on 1 January 2026, with category-wise relaxation as prescribed in the notice.

Selection Route

CBT-1 → CBT-2 → Document Verification → Medical Examination.

Negative Marking

1/3 of the marks allotted to a question is deducted for each wrong answer in CBTs.

RRB JE exam date 2026 and current timeline

The 2026 exam activity belongs to CEN 05/2025. Keep the year and the CEN number separate: the recruitment notification was issued in 2025, while the major CBT stages were conducted in 2026.

RRB JE eligibility 2026

Post and discipline specific eligibility. In the case of Junior Engineer categories, the detailed notice provides technical qualifications prescribed as per the particular post code. This will normally be the appropriate three-year engineering diploma or an accepted engineering degree/technology course as specified in Annexure-A. Please do not follow a blanket “engineering graduate” principle; apply to a post in a subsequent cycle only if your branch and qualification correspond to the requirements in the post-wise Annexure-A.

Age Limit

18–33 years as on 01 January 2026 in CEN 05/2025. The notice provides relaxations, including 3 years for OBC-NCL and 5 years for SC/ST, subject to valid certificates.

Qualification

Post-wise technical qualification applies. Final-year candidates awaiting the required result by the closing date were not eligible under the detailed CEN.

Medical Standard

Medical standards differ by JE category and are specified post-wise in Annexure-A. Medical fitness is part of the final recruitment process.

Important: For a future RRB JE notification, always use that cycle’s own CEN. Age cut-off dates, vacancies and qualification wording can change.

RRB JE exam pattern 2026

The current CEN uses two computer-based tests. CBT-1 is the screening stage, while CBT-2 contains the large discipline-specific technical component. The official notice applies 1/3 negative marking for each wrong answer.

StageSectionsQuestionsTime
CBT-1Mathematics 30; General Intelligence & Reasoning 25; General Awareness 15; General Science 3010090 minutes
CBT-2General Awareness 15; Physics & Chemistry 15; Computers 10; Environment & Pollution 10; Technical Abilities 100150120 minutes

Minimum eligibility percentages stated in the CEN: UR/EWS 40%, OBC-NCL 30%, SC 30% and ST 25%. The notice also provides limited relaxation for PwBD candidates in specified shortage situations.

RRB JE syllabus: what to prepare

The syllabus should be studied in two layers: common aptitude/science content for CBT-1, then common non-technical subjects plus your engineering discipline in CBT-2.

CBT-1 Mathematics

Number systems, algebra, arithmetic, geometry, trigonometry, mensuration, data interpretation and other topics specified in the CEN.

Reasoning

Analogy, series, coding-decoding, relationships, classification, directions, logical and analytical reasoning.

General Awareness

Current events plus Indian geography, history, polity, economy, environment, sports and scientific/technological developments.

General Science

Physics, Chemistry and Life Science broadly up to Class 10 standard.

CBT-2: technical depth matters most

In CBT-2, there are 100 out of 150 Technical Abilities questions. The technical syllabus has been aligned with the respective exam group/discipline in the notification annexures. Gen. Knowledge, Physics & Chemistry, Basics of Computers & Applications, and Basics of Environment & Pollution Control have 50 questions, which is the remaining part.

It is therefore important to allocate a maximized proportion of study time to your technical subject whilst maintaining the 50 common CBT-2 marks with regular revision and tests.

How Scholars SSC Academy can support RRB JE preparation

Scholars SSC Academy’s Railway Coaching Program lists RRB JE among the railway exams it prepares students for. The current program page describes a structured classroom approach built around concept teaching, previous-year question practice, study material, weekly testing and performance analysis.

Concept + Technical Practice

Build a timetable that separates common CBT subjects from your discipline-specific technical preparation.

Previous-Year Questions

Use RRB-style previous questions to identify repeated concepts, calculation patterns and time-pressure points.

Weekly Testing

Regular timed tests help track accuracy, negative marking and topic-wise weak areas.

Performance Review

Use test analysis to decide what to revise next instead of repeating the same comfortable topics.
